Spring 2017 Wrap-Up

Madlax-Capital 2024 won the Championship of the 2017 Howard County Spring Select Lacrosse League!

Going 7-1 in the league on the season, Madlax beat every team in the league at least once. The league is by far the most competitive league in the country.  Madlax beat Bethesda in the semi-finals and Hawks in the Championship.

Fall 2016 Wrap -Up

Madlax-Capital 2024 won every game it played this fall winning 3 tournaments in the process.  Weekend training sessions all September and October paid off as they won the Halloween Havoc (2023 division), MD Invitational and Crabs Autumn Classic events in November. They head into the winter excited about the future and the spring season.

Summer 2016 Wrap-Up:

The future is very bright!

Madlax-Capital 2024 finished the summer strong to prove once again that they are one of the best teams in the country. They won the last 11 games of the summer to win two Championships; Crabs Young Guns and Hogan Hershey Tournaments. Two of their only three losses of the entire summer were in the Championship games at LI Laxfest and Madlax Capital Classic. Their summer record was 18-3. Since March 1st their record is 34-3 as they won every game they played in the spring.

This team continues to improve and is loaded with fine young men who work hard and have a lot of fun on and off the field. They played some of their most beautiful and unselfish lacrosse ever at Young Guns and Hershey in the last two weeks of summer play. When this team wins GB's and moves the ball they are extremely tough to stop. They have the speed, skill, size, focus, character and determination to be champions on the field for a long time. Off the field, in school and at home these boys are respectful and leaders. It has been a total and complete joy to coach and mold this great team.

The coaches will miss everyone until fall season starts up in late August but we will look back on the last few months as an unbelievable experience. It is so rewarding to coach this group.  Have a great rest of the summer.

Robert Bath Scores Game tying goal with 5 seconds left in semi-final game vs LI Legacy (6.19.16)

Sam Whitehurst in a BRAVEHEART vs LI Legacy, scores game-winning goal (6.18.16).

Madlax 8 - Team 91 Long Island 6 (6.5.16)

One of the top teams from Long Island, NY traveled to DC to play Madlax-Capital. It was an awesome game. After being tied late 6-6, Madlax scored two crucial goals, won face-offs and held on to win 8-6.

Madlax scored first and lead the entire game but there were multiple ties throughout this hard fought game between two of the nation's finest programs. The Team 91 goalie made 12 saves to keep it tight as Madlax took 22 shots on the game. JJ Kim, made 5 saves of his own.

Sam Whitehurst, spring season MVP, was on point. He had 3 goals, 1 assists and won all 7 face-offs! Team 91 tried to shut him off but Madlax went into their shut offense and kept scoring. Ryan Duenkel had 3 goals and 3 forced turnovers, Chase Robertson added one and Jake Campbell scored a goal and had 2 big assists. Robby Bath picked up 6 GB's and an assist and was athletic in the middle of the field all day.

Callan Keane was particularly strong on defense with 3 GB's and 3 forced turnovers and shut down play at close defense. Mason Elkas, Brody Green and Davis Owens were also incredible as the defense was missing two starters but didn't miss a beat.

A fun yet intense game, Madlax continued to prove it is one of the top 2024 teams in the country and now heads into an aggressive summer tournaments schedule where they will face other outstanding teams from Philly and Long Island!

Best of luck to Madlax-Capital 2024 and Play with Passion!

Champions!!!

Madlax won the 2016 Spring League Championship!

Madlax beat the Hawks in the semi-finals and Team 91 MD in the finals to capture the crown. Details coming later...

Congratulations.

Madlax 11 - Arden Diamondbacks 4 (5.8.16)

Madlax hosted the Diamondbacks on Mothers Day at Landon School in the Bordley Stadium. It was a solid performance by Madlax and they pulled away to win 11-4 to remain undefeated on the season.

Madlax started slowly only taking a 1-0 lead into the 2nd quarter after a goal by Chase Robertson. However, in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters the offense found it's rhythm and poured it on. It was 4-1 at half, 8-3 after 3 and 11-4 final.

Sam Whitehurst led the team with 3 goals and 10 GB's. He also won 5 of 7 face-offs. Cameron Kelly, Chase Robertson, Steele Maddux and Ryan Duenkel all added 2 goals each to round out the scoring.

The defense was once again very strong all day! Davis Owens had 4 GB's and 3 forced turnovers as he terrified opposing middies all game. John Grennan had 4 GB's and 2 forced turnovers while Graham Lesher had 3 GB's and 2 forced turnovers. JJ Kim made 6 saves to maintain a solid Save%.

Madlax finishes up the regular season with another game vs a strong Hawks team this Sunday.

Madlax 7 - Team 91 MD 5 (5.1.16)

Madlax 2024 Capital did it again. They came from behind to pull out a win over a talented Team 91 MD team. Trailing 3-5 entering the 4th Q, Madlax locked down defensively and won 4-0 in the 4th Q to pull away and capture the big win. The team remains undefeated in league play with a record of 4-0.

Team 91 MD came in with a defensive strategy of shutting off Sam Whitehurst which they did the entire game. Sam handled it with poise scoring a goal and winning 9 of 11 face-offs while picking up 10 GB's to lead the squad. Madlax offense proved shutting off one player wont work as the other players stepped up and picked up the scoring.

Steele Maddux added 3 points (2g, 1a), Ryan Duenkel pumped in 4 points (1g, 3a), and Hank Maddux and Chase Robertson each added an assist. However, it was Jake Campbell who scored 3 goals including the game winning and game clinching goals in the 4th Q! He finished two gorgeous inside shots off excellent feeds from Ryan Duenkel late in the game. Madlax showed it has depth at every position which wins these close games. This is the 3rd come from behind win of the season for Madlax 2024. PHEW!!!

Defensively Davis Owens was incredible forcing 3 turnovers that changed the course of the game. He controlled the middle of the field and disrupted the Team 91 Middies all game. Graham Lesher did a fine job on the opponents leading scorer in the 2nd half. Mason Elkins improves weekly at close defense. Callan Keane, John Grennan, Brodie Green round out the best long sticks core who protect a stellar goalie, JJ Kim (7 saves). The defense only gives up 5.75 goals per game which is a league best!

Madlax takes on Arden Diamondbacks on May 8, Mothers Day, at home at Landon School at 1:30pm.

Madlax 9 - Bethesda 5 (4.24.16)

Madlax went down 0-2 early in the 1st quarter as Bethesda came out fired up and ready to play. After an early time out to refocus and adjust it was all Madlax!!!

Sam Whitehurst proceeded to take over the game scoring 3 goals before half time as Madlax jumped to a 6-3 half-time lead. he won 7 of 8 face offs as well. The 3rd quarter was a bit of a struggle with Madlax making too many penalties which gave Bethesda some life. After settling down Madlax then stepped it up and finished off Bethesda 9-5.

Ryan Duenkel and Sam Whitehurst both finished with 5 points (4g, 1a) to lead the team offensively. John Grennan did a fantastic job guarding Bethesda's top attackman and limited him. Jake Campbell added 3 points (1g, 2a) to round out scoring. Robbie won 4 of 5 face offs also.

JJ Kim was incredible in cage making 10 saves and posting a 67% save%. Bethesda did hit 5 pipes (the goalies best friend) but JJ was solid on all other shots.

Madlax improves to 3-0 in league play and is in 1st place. They face Team 91 MD in next game this Sunday.

Madlax 13 - Looney's 9 (4.17.16)

Madlax cruised to a solid 13-9 victory over Looney's this past Sunday to improve to 2-0 in the HOCO league.

Madlax used a 5-1 run in the 2nd quarter to pull away from a very strong Looney's team. Jake Campbell led the team with 7 points (6 in the first half) as he picked apart a good zone defense. Sam Whitehurst was dominant in all aspects all day. He won 9 of 13 face-offs, had 6 GB's to lead the team and had 5 points (2g, 3a)!

Hank Maddux and Chase Robertson added a pair of goals while Steele Maddux, Ryan Duenkel, Ryan Baik, Cameron Kelley all pitched in one goal each. JJ was good in cage with a 50% save% on the day and improved clears. Robbie Bath was 4 of 6 on face-offs.

The team is looking forward to playing local rival Bethesda in the next league game!

Madlax 12 - LI Legacy 3 (4.16.16)

(Stat sheet lost)

Long Island Legacy 2024 came to DC to play local teams in friendly non-league games. The games were held at Landon Freed field. LI Legacy has beaten Team 91 by one goal recently and LI Express by a lot of goals and claimed to be best team on long Island.

Madlax 2024 jumped all over LI Legacy and cruised to a convincing 12-3 win. It was a confidence booster for the team as they started to finally move the ball extremely fast all over the field. Graham Lesher in particular did a fantastic job shutting down his attackman. Steele Maddux had 4 goals to pace the offense.

Overall the team improved and was ready to play Looney's the next day!

Madlax 5 - Hawks 4 (4.10.16)

League Game #1:

Congrats to the 2024 Capital team for an amazing come from behind win today. It was ugly as they had 8 minutes of penalties but once again the team found a way to win. Total team effort.

Jake Campbell scored the game tying and winning goals. He was not going to be denied. Incredible effort!

Robbie Bath had a game winning clear that led to Jakes final goal. What an athlete.

JJ Kim had 8 impressive saves on some rips and gave us a chance to win. 66% Save% on the game. Great clears also.  Best game this spring and we needed it.

Ryan scored two crucial goals in the 2nd half. Sam and Robbie battled on face offs and won the important ones in the 4th Q. Ryan B. stuck a sweet goal.

Graham had 6 GB'S to lead the team and shut down his attackman. The defense held a very dangerous Hawks offense to only 1 goal the entire 2nd half. Way to go defense...and that includes a lot of guys.

The boys proved they are winners who once again showed impressive heart and toughness.

Next week's game brings a very strong Looney's LC from Baltimore.

Madlax Spring MADness Play Day (4.3.16)

The final pre-season play day and three more wins for Madlax-Capital 2024. Solid games vs MD Redshirts, Hawks and FCA prepares this team for an upcoming season in the new Howard County Select league. The new league should be very challenging!

Madlax cruised to wins over MD Reshirts and FCA but had a battle on their hands against the Hawks in the 2nd annual MADness Play Day. Trailing all game and down 2-4 the boys stepped it up in the 2nd half pulling off a remarkable come from behind 6-5 win.

Ryan Duenkel had 2 G's and 1 A to lead the way. Sam Whitehurst had the game winning goal. JJ Kim was stellar in cage making 9 saves and a 64% Save%.

Madlax plays the same Hawks team in the season opener in the new HOCO league on 4.10. Hopefully, the team will start stronger earlier in the game in stead of waiting until the 2nd half to get rolling.

Madlax Halftime Game Denver-GTown Game (4.2.16)

Amazing experience today for the 2024 Capital & 2024/25 MDVA players! 26 lucky boys got to play at halftime for 7 minutes of the Gtown-Denver D1 lacrosse game. The White beat the Blue team 3-1. The highlight was an incredible BTB (behind the back) goal by Steele Maddux off an impressive assist from Ryan Duenkel. So much fun for all!

Madlax Wins the National Youth Fallfest 2015 (11.8.15)

The 2024 Capital All-Stars extends it's tournament win streak to 6!

In the last six championship format tournaments or leagues the 2024 Capital team has entered it has won the Championship! This goes back to March 2015. Yesterday was #6 as they beat Madlax MD/VA 2023 7-3 in the finals of the National Youth FallFest.

Madlax played and convincingly beat Silver Spring Warriors LC, 3D Mid-Atlantic and MD Extreme before heading into a Championship against another quality Madlax team.

Jake Campell lead the team in scoring on the weekend and seemed to finish every shot he took and dish out plenty of assists to pace the high powered offense. Ryan Duenkel lead the team in goals while Steele Maddux finished up 3rd on the team in scoring to round out one of the more lethal starting attack units in the nation. Sam Whitehurst dominated play in the middle of the field and won close to 90% of his face-offs. Robby Bath faced off well also! Everyone got into the action as Hudson Greene played particularly well on attack and midfield. Sloan Richards, Hank Maddux, Chase Robertson and Finn Avis all scored, played tough middie defense, transitioned well and scooped lots of ground balls all day long!  JJ Kim in goal was excellent and the defense (Lesher, Timmins, Green) protecting him was tough all day long only allowing 11 goals in 4 games.

Congratulations to the Capital 2024 boys. They wrap up the outdoor season this weekend at the Hoganlax Fall Brawl.

Madlax 9 - Bethesda 6 (10.18.15)

Madlax-Capital 2024 Explodes in 2nd half to take down rival, Bethesda, 9-6, in a fall league match-up.

After being ties at half 4-4 and down 4-5, Madlax went on a 5 goal run in the 2nd half to beat a very talented Bethesda team. This win avenges an earlier season loss by one and may be the final time Madlax plays Bethesda 2024 until spring 2016. Although it was literally almost freezing at game time (9am) Madlax played their most complete game of the year as a team limiting turn-over and mistakes. Madlax played it's bets team defense so far and improved on clears!

Unofficial stats: Steele Maddux, in his first game of the fall, added a hat trick, to lead the team in scoring. Sam Whitehurst and Ryan Duenkel added 2 goals each as well. Robbie Bath, Jake Campbell and Hank Maddux had 2 assists each proving that when we share the ball we play better offense! Graham Lesher played especially tough defense and locked down the opponents top attackman limiting him to one goal. Defenders James Timmins, Brodie Green, Davis Owens and Callan Keane were especially physical and constantly knocked down passes and frustrated Bethesda. GB's need improvement with those longsticks.

Great win and confidence builder as the team heads into 4th grade tourneys in November!

Madlax 16, Bethesda 8 (5.31.15)

SPRING LEAGUE NPYLL - 2015 CHAMPIONS!!!

The Madlax-Capital 2024 AAA team played its best half of the season in fitting fashion and with perfect timing as they raced out to a 12-3 halftime lead. They never looked back and cruised to a 16-8 win over a Bethesda team they used to only beat by a goal last year.

This 2024 team worked harder all spring than any 3rd grade team ever for Madlax and the improvements and payoffs were rewarded. Every player showed confidence, improved skills and higher overall game IQ and knowledge. Since March 1st the team has created amazing chemistry and it shows on the field with consistently high level play! CONGRATULATIONS !

Ryan Duenkel was named game MVP with 10 points (6 goals and 4 assists). Chase Robertson had 8 GB's, 1 goal and 4 assists (5 points) and Jake Campell had 6 points (5 goals, 1 assist). The heart and soul of the team was Sam Whitehurst who once again controlled face-offs, gave his team more possessions and led our team throughout emotionally! He was 8 of 12 on the day and won 72% on the season! Incredible.

Ryan was also named season MVP as he led the team in scoring with 50 points this spring. Robert Bath was named season C.A.S.E. award winner due to his tireless work ethic, hustle, positive attitude, sportsmanship, commitment and dedication to the team and his teammates.

A special thanks to the most dedicated and amazing manager ever in Colleen Avis. She is the best and is a huge part of our team success! The 2024 bond is unmatched! Also thanks to Duncan Avis and Lael Campbell for providing valuable stats all season.

Best of luck this summer! GO MADLAX!!!!

Madlax 10, Breakers 6 (5.30.15)

NPYLL Semi-Final Game!

Solid win to advance to finals!

Madlax 13, Bethesda 7 (5.17.15)

Madlax is in the playoffs! Madlax hosted a very strong Bethesda team at Landon School and despite a close game for 3 quarters pulled away in the 4th to win convincingly 13-7. It was 8-7 to start the 4th quarter!

Madlax jumped outta 8-3 lead in the 2nd quarter but a few tough breaks enable Bethesda to catch it back to 8-7 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Players of the game, Ryan Duenkel, put the team on his back and pumped in 7 goals! Jake Campell had 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists), while Chase Robertson, Finn Avis, Robert Bath and Steele Maddux all had 2 pints (1 goal, 1 assist). Sam Whitehurst won 6 of 11 face-offs, picked up 9 GB's and had an impressive 3 assists!

Madlax finished the regular NPYLL season with a 5-1 record and as the #2 seed and will host the #3 seed Breakers at Landon on 5/30 at 12pm in the stadium. If they win they play in the Championship at 9am at Boys Latin on 5/31 vs the winner of Hawks and Bethesda.

Go Madlax!

Madlax 11, Cavalier 2023 10 (5.10.15)

In a non-league game on Mothers Day, the 3rd grade lax train built up some steam as they rolled a solid and previously undefeated 4th grade team from Loudoun County. Everyone logged quality minutes and Madlax definitely improved as they head into the final weekend of regular season play on May 17th.

The team played unselfishly and moved the ball extremely well in transition. The defense was tested by skilled and huge attack but held tough and slid well forcing many turnovers. It was a total team effort win!

Jake Campbell, player of the game, had an incredible 6 goals and 1 assist to pace Madlax. It included a no-look backwards shot and goal. He was finishing everything on breaks as he received precise passes from Ryan Duenkel who had 6 points, 3 goals and 3 assists, on the day as well.  Chase Robertson also had a huge game and picked up 7 GB's to lead the team while scoring 2 goals and dishing out an assist. Sam Whitehurst won 8 of 11 face-offs to control play.

Madlax is 4-1 in league play now and hosts rival and talented Bethesda, also 4-1, on May 17th. If Madlax win it takes #2 seed into playoffs and earns a home field game on May 30th. GO Madlax!!!

Madlax 6, Hawks 7 in OT (5.3.15)

Madlax traveled to Annapolis and battled more than 4 quarters but came up just short in sudden death to a solid Hawks team in OT. It was an incredible game. Hard fought the entire time. The team is now 4-1 on the season and tied with Bethesda for 2nd place. A win over Bethesda on May 17th will lock 2nd place and a home game on May 30th in the first round of the playoffs.

Player of the game was goalie Connor Pinto who had 8 saves and gave the team a chance to win. Jake Campbell and Ryan Duenkel each has 3 points (2 goals and 1 assist) while Hank Maddux won 50% of his face offs and battled every draw. Chase Robertson led the team with 7 ground balls! He also added 1 goal.

Madlax hosts a Cavalier LC 2023 team (non-league) at home at Landon on May 10th. It is chance to play a quality team and get better before the battle with rival Bethesda.

Go Madlax!

Madlax 18, Next Level 2 (4.26.15)

The 3rd grade magic continued yesterday as the team cruised to victory over Next Level to go 4-0 on the season.

Madlax jumped out fast and scored often early taking a 7-0 1st quarter lead. Everyone got plenty of playing time and experience and the team surely improved. Sam Whitehurst went an incredible 10-0 at face-offs and he added 9 GB's and 4 points. Jake Campbell lead the team in scoring with 7 points (3 goals and 4 assists) followed closely by Ryan Duenkel with 6 points (4 goals and 2 assists).

The player of the game was awarded to Steele Maddux who had 3 GB's, 4 shots, 2 goals and 1 assist.

Madlax now heads into the tough part of the schedule with an away game at Hawks who beat Madlax in the fall of 2014 when they last played. It should be a great game but Madlax is hungry and focused.  GO Madlax!

Madlax 15, Baltimore Breakers 2 (4.19.15)

Outstanding all around performance by Madlax to remain undefeated on the season. 3-0!

After a tight 1st Q (it was only 2-1 Madlax) the boys started moving the ball faster and jumped out to a 6-2 half time lead and cruised to a 15-3 final score. Most goals were assisted which is very hard to defend. Madlax played with constant unselfishness making the extra pass and moved the ball up the field in transition particularly well.

Ryan Duenkel and Sam Whitehurst led the team with 4 goals each. Ryan also added 3 assists to lead team in total points. Sam led the team in GB's with 11 and a face-off record of 6-2. The player of the game was Finn Avis who had 2 goals, 2 assists, 4 GB's and 2 forced turnovers so he will be guest captain for the week.

Matt Mahoney, Steele Maddux, Jake Campbell and Robert Bath all added a goal to round out the scoring. Congrats boys. Good luck next week vs Next Level.  Go Madlax!

Madlax 12 , Cannons 5 (4.12.15)

What a perfect afternoon. All the boys played well and won convincingly. Everyone got to play which is always nice too. Congrats to our newly elected team captains, Jake Campbell, Sam Whitehurst and Ryan Duenkel who were voted by their teammates. After each game I will recognize one player for an outstanding game and they will be honorary captains also for the week. Today that was Robert Bath.

Thank you very much to Colleen Avis for organizing that awesome team party. I know everyone had fun and it was beautiful weather too. Thanks also to Duncan and Lael for keeping stats and Steven Robertson for doing the game clock. That is valuable help and I really appreciate it! We have a great group of parents who all get along well and have fun together. It is so nice to hear you all cheering on all the great athletes who play hard for each other and are becoming close friends. It's a great group all around!

See you next Sunday for another home game against a strong Baltimore Breakers team at Landon. Go Madlax!

Madlax 12, Chesapeake Storm 4 (3.29.15)

Madlax jumped out early on the Chesapeake Storm and never looked back starting off the season 1-0.
