Our tryouts are actually run like our practices so attendance is required for all new and returning players in every grade.  We evaluate players to create new teams and start putting in systems, offenses and defenses right away (since the tournaments start so quickly). If you have to miss ALL tryouts below for academics or injury please email harrison@madlax.com and we will try accommodate you in a later practice.

Note: The Madlax All-Stars start of the year is June, not August, like many other clubs. Our annual calendar is June 1, 2024 - May 31, 2025.  So, this means if your son makes and plays on a summer 2024 team, he is AUTOMATICALLY promised a roster spot on a Madlax All-Star team in the fall of 2024. This means he does NOT need to attend tryouts for any other program after summer or before fall knowing he is already accepted and part of the best program in the DC area again next school year!

Please see entire summer team calendar for your specific team. For best results download the SportsEngine APP on your phones and follow your sons team!

Welcome to the Summer 2024 Season

Are you ready for an amazing summer with one of the premier lacrosse clubs in the country? Madlax is looking for new, talented players to help improve all of our existing teams. So, if you're currently in 2nd-11th grades and ready for an amazing summer season REGISTER today!

If you are new to Madlax please read about our comprehensive All-Stars program here, madlax.com/allstars. Madlax-Capital is the premier program in the greater DC area, places the most boys into collegiate programs by far, and attends only the most elite invitational tournaments and all-star events! You have to play for Madlax if you want to attend the best events that NO other clubs in the DC area attend like NLF and NAL

Madlax participates in the most elite invitational recruiting tournaments in the country every summer. Madlax is the only DC area team to be a member of the NLF-National Lacrosse Federation, which hold some of the most competitive and highly scouted tournaments.  Again, no other travel boys club in the greater DC area attends all of these prestigious tournaments. Be sure to read details about our All-Stars Program and NATIONAL TEAM opportunities. If you want to play on our National Team you must make a Madlax-Capital All-Star team. There is not a higher level of club lacrosse played in the country then you will find on our National Teams.

See you at tryouts in late May.  GO MADLAX!

Important Summer Notes for High School Athletes (2025-2028):

  • The summer season is from right after Memorial to late July .  Schedules vary by team so see schedules on PDF linked below
  • Practices are 1-2 times weekly and almost always Tuesdays, Wednesdays or  Thursdays and you are expected to make practices when in town and available. Unexcused missed practices will be a problem for you.
  • If you have a varsity team conflict with a Madlax All-Stars event let us know right now so we can plan and work it out. Most varsity teams don't do anything or do just one event so this is usually not an issue. Remember Madlax directors are helping you get into colleges so be sure to prioritize Madlax in the summer and fall.
  • You are doing PLENTY of lacrosse between Madlax, your high school, Nike Nationals, Showcases, maybe even fall sport practices and hopefully continued strength, skills and speed training on your own. Based on many years of experience, we strongly discourage high school boys from doing anything else for these two grueling summer months. This means please do not attend extra camps, college prospect days or play on other random teams at all. You will have plenty of time to do those things in August thru January. Your body needs to rest in between events in the summer so you play well and stay healthy.
  • Plan regular visits with your top 2-3 colleges on your own in June-August. An on campus unofficial visit is a great way to see a campus, meet coaches and maybe even current players. It is hard to schedule these in summer so it will continue all fall. Don't play in college camps as a way to meet coaches in the summer until after your last tourney. Again, it is too much and the college coaches will see you all play about 5-10 times this summer based on your Madlax schedule below.

Parents Roles in Madlax All-Stars

You Should be Proud!

Your son just made a very, very strong lacrosse program and is going to get a lot better this year if he commits and works hard. He is a talented and athletic young man and has a very bright future. Now that he has made it I want to remind returning parents and inform new parents of how we see your roles ideally in Madlax All-Stars.

Stay Positive and Supportive!

It's an exciting time to watch your boys play on game day and it can be frustrating at times, trust me, we know. All coaches are trained, experienced and understand the game at a high level having played and/or coached at the collegiate level. The Directors and coaches have a specific training plan and goals within each team. We simply ask that you are always trusting and supportive of the coaches. If you have an issue with a coach please email the directors but never address a coach right after a game or directly.

By being supportive of Madlax and the coaches and understanding and trusting of our process you're helping the boys develop their passion for the game of lacrosse. You are also making it a much more fun environment for them to play in.  Although Madlax plays the best players to win in league games and playing time is never guaranteed (read written playing time policy here), we are not a win at all cost club. In fact, it is more important that we are developing the boys skills and overall understanding of the lacrosse while acting in line with our C.A.S.E. initiative. Ideally we are enabling the boys to have fun while they work hard to improve. There is a greater chance of this happening for your sons if you stay positive and supportive!

Don't talk to your son or coach from the sideline.

When the parents scream 'SHOOT!' or 'PASS!' or "Just RUN!" it is distracting and confusing for them. Often times it is just plain wrong and frustrating for coaches. It's hard not to get caught up in it for players this young. It is VERY hard. We get that. We know we even have some parents who have played college lacrosse but even those parents must refrain from coaching and speaking to your sons during games. Talk with your sons all you want after the game or before but please...NOTHING during the game. Let him learn and enjoy the experience on his own. Also please never stand on the bench sideline or on the endline if possible. We would also strongly encourage you that when you do speak with your son about lacrosse that it is positive and about his effort and attitude more than about plays or mistakes he made on the field. You will burn him out if that is all he hears and he just wont want to play anymore for risk of being scolded in the car ride home. Try to celebrate assists more than goals, ground balls more than hits and being coachable and a good teammate more than anything else.

THANK YOU!

We understand you are making a sacrifice and taking a lot of time and spending a lot of money in having your sons play Madlax. We take this fact seriously and therefore try to maximize our time with them. The players who commit and attend the most will have the greatest experiences. Thank you for bringing them to every practice and game and taking on these simple roles as a Madlax parent. Please communicate early and often if you have to miss something or be late for academic or personal reasons. We look forward to a fun and very successful season coaching your boys!

ENJOY the Season!

Playing Time Philosophy for Madlax All-Stars Teams

Madlax plays to win in tournaments and spring league games that have a Championship. So, some boys will not play at all unless we are leading comfortably in Championship format tournaments or spring league games. That score lead amount is the head coaches decision as it varies from team to team.  In scrimmages or play days or showcases where there is NOT a championship we will play everyone although it will still not be even time.  Ideally, Madlax  coaches can play everyone in games evenly and still be able to win a game no matter what the format.  You will learn, however, that that doesn't always happen.

Playing time is not guaranteed or promised for any player on any team. It is earned. The coaches have the right to play the best players to help Madlax teams win any game. If players miss practices coaches reserve the right to not play or limit playing time in games and tournaments. That said, in high school recruiting tournaments or showcases, Madlax coaches will make every effort to play every player evenly.   Coaches will almost always use a set EMO and MDD team which alters playing time as well.

Boys should address playing time concerns directly with their coach on their own at any point, but again, never the parents. Boys might ask, "Coach, what can I do or what do I need to do better to earn more playing time?"  If parents still want to discuss playing time they may email a director 24 hours after a game but should never address a coach on the field regarding playing time.

It is our wish that all parents try to remain positive and support the TEAM your son is on rather than focus solely on his playing minutes. Parents are requested to encourage their sons to work harder in practice to earn playing time. Practices are where the most improvement is made and playing time is truly earned.

That said, the Madlax directors and coaches understand it is hard to watch your son not play. Please trust that we are working hard in practices to help your son improve and we hope he is as well so eventually he is getting more minutes. We always try to preach that a player who has 1 shift in a game or 15 shifts can have equal impact if you treat every shift as a chance to prove yourself.  Finally, practices are where players improve the most and earn playing time more so than in games so emphasize attendance there for your son.

Thanks for your support. Best of luck to your sons.
