Week 4 (2024) Scores & MVP's

BALLERS ELITE
Game 1 
Thunderbirds: 4
Warriors: 3
MVP: Colin McCormick, Jax Graham

In the first game of the day, the undefeated Thunderbirds take on the Warriors. Both defenses were strong early in the game, but Tripp Prendergast broke through to put the underdog Warriors up 1-0. But Brennan Kuper found Dom Daniel with a beautiful pass, and Daniel buried the breakaway to tie things up for the Thunderbirds. On the ensuing faceoff, Jax Graham scored a sweet goal to make it 2-1 Thunderbirds. Things held that way going into the 2nd period. The Warriors came out guns blazing in the second, and Archie Wiedemann opened the scoring to tie the game at 2-2. Both defenses continued to battle, until Dom Daniel broke the ice with his second of the game to put the Thunderbirds up 3-2 heading into the final period. Jax Graham got the 3rd period going with his second goal of the game, which put the Thunderbirds up 4-2 with 9 minutes to play. With less than 3 minutes to play, Wyatt Miller ran through a double team and found Archie Wiedemann who scored to bring the Warriors within one goal at 4-3. The Thunderbirds were able to hold off the late comeback and win 4-3 to stay undefeated.

Game 2 

VLC 32/33 Red: 5
VLC 32/33 Blue: 0
MVP: Rhys Risken, Jack Bailey

VLC 32/33 Red took on VLC 32/33 Blue in the second game of the day. Mason Orchant got the scoring going, putting VLC Red up 1-0 with a sweet finish. Eli Gregory followed with a goal of his own, extending the VLC Red lead to 2-0. Both defenses settled in and the score held at 2-0, advantage VLC Red, for the rest of the period. After almost the entire 2nd period went scoreless, Jack Bailey scored with 30 seconds remaining in the game to put VLC Red up 3-0 heading into the 3rd. To open the final period, Jack Robertson scored on a breakaway to make it 4-0 VLC Red. Mason Orchant continued the momentum for VLC Red, scoring on a great finish and putting his team up 5-0, which ended up being the final score.

Game 3 

VLC White: 2
Blazers: 2
MVP: Hough Biles, AJ Terenski

VLC White took on the Blazers in the final game of the Ballers Elite division. The game was a defensive struggle early on, until AJ Terenski broke the ice and put VLC White up 1-0.  Hough Biles responded for the Blazers, evening the score at 1-1 with a nice finish and sending the game to the 2nd period all tied up. Biles opened the 2nd with his second goal of the game, to put the Blazers up 2-1. But Ryan Newell responded with a tough goal of his own, knotting the game up at 2-2 for VLC White. An emotionally charged 3rd period led to a penalty frenzy for the Blazers, leaving the game up to special teams. But the Blazers penalty kill was able to hold off the VLC White powerplay, sending the game to a shootout. Neither side was able to earn a shootout goal, and the game ended in a tie.

FUTURE ELITE

Game 4

Rock: 9
Swarm: 4
MVP: Augie Patru, Talbot Biles

Swarm took on Rock in the first game of the Future Elite division. Rock came out buzzing, with Augie Patru scoring 2 goals in the first two shifts of the game to put his team ahead 2-0. Patru added another to complete the hat trick on his first shift of the game, and Rock led 3-0. With less than 30 seconds left in the period, Patru scored his fourth goal of the contest to put Rock up 4-0 heading into the second period. The change in periods did not deter Patru from continuing on his rampage, and his early 2nd period tally gave Rock a 5-0 lead. Gavin Reilly continued Rock’s momentum, scoring a man-down goal to make it 6-0 midway through the period. Brady Alton added another to make it 7-0. Talbot Biles was able to stop the bleeding for the Swarm, scoring a tough goal as the 2nd period expired to get his team on the board and make it 7-1 heading into the final frame. Jude Dauer opened the period with a quick goal, getting Swarm within 5 goals with ample time to play. The Swarm kept pushing, and Wyatt Carter added a goal of his own, making the game 7-3. But Augie Patru quelled any momentum with a dagger diving backhand goal to put Rock up 8-3, effectively sealing the game. After Dylan Reilly of the Rock and Jude Dauer of the Swarm traded goals, the game ended 9-4. 

Game 5

VLC Red: 5
VLC White: 1
MVP: Blake Burton, Sam Howard

VLC Red took on VLC White in the second game of the Future Elite division. Wes Martin got the scoring going in the 1st period with a nifty lefty finish, and VLC Red went up 1-0. Both defenses held strong for the remainder of the period, and VLC Red took a 1-0 lead into the second period. Defense continued to be the theme of the game until midway through the second period, Blake Burton tallied two goals to put VLC Red up 3-0. Sam Howard responded for VLC White, getting his team on the board and making it 3-1 heading into the final period. Blake Burton opened up the final period with a sweet finish off a pass from Wes Martin, putting VLC Red up 4-1. Soon after, Ronan Rath added another for VLC Red, making it 5-1 and effectively icing the game.

Game 6

Seals: 4
VLC 2030: 3
MVP: Evan Smith, Rhys Comstock

In the final game of the Future Elite division, VLC 2030 took on the Seals. Dylan Weader got the game started right away, scoring a quick goal to give VLC an early 1-0 advantage. Despite taking a double minor penalty, the Seals defense was able to kill off the 4 minute VLC advantage and keep the score 1-0. Riding that momentum, Rhys Comstock was able to score for the Seals and tie the game up at 1-1. Wyatt Carter responded for the Seals as the first period expired, and the Seals brough a 2-1 lead into the second period. Clark Wright opened the 2nd with a long distance goal, giving the Seals a 3-1 advantage. But Evan Smith ended the 3 goal Seals run with a tough finish, and made the score 3-2. Jack Fox added another goal for VLC on a breakaway, making it 3-3 to end the 2nd period. After a deadlocked start to the period, Rhys Comstock scored with 2 minutes to play to give the Seals a 4-3 lead late. Despite a frenzied VLC push to tie the game, the Seals defense held and they won the game.

JUNIOR ELITE

Game 7

Mammoth: 7 (SO)
VLC White: 6
MVP: Terence Lee, Sayan Debakhtar

Mammoth took on VLC White in the first game of the junior elite division. After saves from both goalies, Zephryn Marsh collected his own rebound to give Mammoth the early 1-0 lead. Terence Lee responded for VLC, scoring a pair of pretty goals to give his squad a 2-1 lead. Later in the period, Sayan Debakhtar dodged to the middle, scoring a goal and tying the game for the Mammoth. Early in the 2nd period, Colton Neal scored to give Mammoth a 3-2 lead. But VLC immediately equalized on a Colby Reese goal, making the game 3-3. Shortly after, Terence Lee scored his third goal for a hat trick, and a 4-3 VLC lead. Ben Samuel delivered the next blow, scoring a sweet goal for the Mammoth and tying the game 4-4. Sayan Debakhtar kept the Mammoth run going, as he scored his second goal to put Mammoth up 5-4 heading into the 3rd period. Ben Samuel opened up scoring in the final frame, getting his second goal and putting Mammoth up 6-4. But after a Mammoth turnover, Colby Reese found himself on a breakaway to score and bring VLC within one. On the next shift, Eli Miller scored for VLC tied things up at 6-6 off of a well run pick play. Both teams continued to trade chances, but neither could capitalize on their opportunities and the game headed to a shootout. Sayan Debakhtar scored late in the shooutout to win the game for Mammoth.

Game 8

Knighthawks: 9
VLC Red: 5
MVP: Andrew Cornell, Jackson Kent

VLC Red took on the Knighthawks in the final game of the day. Jackson Kent opened the scoring for the Knighthawks with a clean finish, putting his team up 1-0. Matthew Gibbons responded with VLC’s first goal, finishing on a breakaway to tie things at 1-1 midway through the period. But on the next shift, Jackson Kent dipped under a check and finished in tight to give the Knighthawks a 2-1 lead. Ike Moser won the next faceoff and ripped home a goal for the Knigthawks, making it 3-1. Luke North kept the momentum rolling, scoring another Knighthawks goal on the very next faceoff, putting his team up 4-1 with less than 2 minutes to play in the 1st period. North added another at the buzzer, giving the Knighthawks a 5-1 lead heading into the 2nd period. The Knighthawks did not slow down at the start of the 2nd period, and Ike Moser cut through 3 defenders to score his second goal and give the Knighthawks a 6-1 lead. But Terence Lee stopped the bleeding for VLC, scoring a beautiful team goal, and making the score 6-2. Mike Marschner followed Lee with the highlight of the day for VLC, scooping up a rebound and scoring on a beautiful spinning twister shot, making the score 6-3. Matthew Gibbons kept the VLC run going, scoring from the wing after a nice fake, and making the score 6-4 heading into the final frame. Beckett Calic finally stopped the VLC run to kick off the 3rd period, dropping his shoulder and finishing to make it 7-4 Knighthawks. Terence Lee fired back, scoring another goal on a breakaway and bringing VLC within two at 7-5. But Jackson Kent picked up a loose ball on a breakaway and made sure to finish, making it 8-5 Knighthawks with less than 5 minutes to play. Terence Lee drew a penalty, and VLC went on the power play with 3 minutes to go. But Pierce Brown scored shorthanded to put the Knighthawks up 9-5 with 2 minutes to play, icing the game for his team.
